Frequently Asked Questions on Post Office Franchise Scheme

The minimum investment is just ₹5,000 (Five Thousand Rupees only), provided in the form of a National Savings Certificate (NSC) pledged to the Superintendent of Post Offices as a refundable security deposit. There are no franchise royalty fees or hidden charges.

According to the official Department of Posts remuneration list: Speed Post booking earns ₹5.00 per article; Registered Letter booking earns ₹3.00 per article (plus ₹1 bonus for >1,000 articles/month); e-Money Order (eMO) earns ₹3.50 to ₹5.00; Postage Stamps & stationery sale earns 5% commission; and Retail / Utility Bill collections earn ₹2 to ₹5 per transaction.

Any Indian citizen who is at least 18 years of age (no upper age limit) and has passed the 10th standard (Matriculation/SSC) from a recognized board is eligible. Cyber café owners, shopkeepers, kiranawalas, CSC operators, stationery stores, retired individuals, and self-help groups (SHGs) are eligible.

Depending on counter volume, a typical franchise outlet booking 20 Speed Posts, 15 Registered Letters, 10 e-Money Orders, and selling ₹20,000 in stamps/stationery earns approximately ₹8,000 to ₹25,000+ per month as supplemental profit with zero added rent or utility cost for existing shopkeepers.

A franchise outlet can book domestic & international Speed Posts, Registered Letters, Parcels, issue e-Money Orders, sell postage stamps, envelopes, and revenue stamps, and collect retail utility bills. However, savings bank account deposits, PPF, and physical mail delivery remain exclusively departmental.

The filled application form along with a copy of 10th marksheet, PAN, Aadhaar, address proof, and ₹5,000 NSC must be submitted to the Divisional Head / Senior Superintendent of Post Offices (SSPO / SPO) having administrative jurisdiction over your area.
